Which ageing gent will be next Prime Minister

These are five candidates from the Democratic Party of Japan, and one of them will become prime minister sometime on Monday.

I guess I am hoping for one of the two on the left. Did you know Mabuchi Sumio (2nd from left) is nicknamed Terminator because of his robotic look? Poor Japan is stuck in a revolving door of prime ministers played out by old daddies and backroom politics. Politically stagnant and not much to look at.

Does someone find this sexy?

I try to ignore most Japanese ladies fashion, particularly any clothes worn by anyone younger than 60. Young girls wearing belts or long shirts instead of skirts, famished waifs, and lollicon (Lollita complex) jailbait are all things I’ve learned to ignore.

This billboard in posh Aoyama made me stop and wonder. Ayumi Hamasaki is a very popular, youngish J-pop singer. Do large numbers of men and dykes enjoy looking at robotic ladies impersonating spooky aliens staring at us from the future?

Hamasaki-san’s “love songs” are all the more uncanny perched above a fading 1960s building with the exotic and upscale name of Aix-en Provence. Like a dying flower, this fantasy mix of future and past reminds that beauty and riches fade fast and leave their temporary marks on our awareness.

Lumine Shinjuku displays robot with giant bulging crotch

Has anyone else been on the East Side of the JR Shinjuku station? Lumine has this incredibly obscene robot with a giant, bulging crotch. I love how there are always people snapping photos. I am unclear what the commercial goal of this display is, but it is certainly obscene.

Notice in the reflection, below, this new lamb-inspired fall fashion: matching white furry vest and leg warmers. Nice!

Thanks, Tokyo Matt, for showing me this commercial spectacle.

Final Tokyo Pride Parade images

I am ending my photos about Tokyo Pride Parade with this odd grab bag: rainbow socks with chunky heels, an outfit somewhere between farmer and rickshaw driver, two guys in chaps and bow ties, Google’s gay robot t-shirt, and this celebrant who passed out in the heat.

“Zettai Kareshi” (Absolute Boyfriend) is regrettably over. I feel a little sad. The robot’s emotions were stronger than the technology. When Hayami Mokomichi is put inside the box, I cried a little. Moco-moco’s memory lives on!

Zettai Kareshi, the Dreamy Robot

Zettai Kareshi

Of course the perfect boyfriend is a robot. This anime has become a live action melodrama on Fuji TV, with Hayami Mokomichi as the dreamy robot with Johnny-su hair. Thanks, Yoko, for introducing us! Lots more photos here. Does anyone know if there’s fansub translations?

Here’s the preview:
