Is this even more surreal than the time Exile performed for the imperial couple? Exile is a popular and heavily tanned, boy band. I don’t know that much about Kumamon but he sure dances fast!
As the serious world of enterprise slows down at year end, I’m delighted to discover HBO’s Girls, a downwardly mobile Sex and the City set in Brooklyn. Think much much more unsatisfying sex, more existential angst, and many more Jewish characters.
The author, lead actress, and director Lena Dunham creates an often unsympathetic main character, who somehow manages to befriend a conservative girl, a bohemian girl, and a super painful virgin. But my secret pleasure is how she gave herself a disgusting boyfriend who is hot in a large nose and geeky fashion.
To share my mother’s characterization of this amazing talent: “I don’t like Lena Dunham, think she is a slob, painful to look at what she does with herself and how she wants/allows herself to be photographed.” I guess I agree with everything, except that I would delete the second word! I love it!
Is this what my college-age NYC nieces are watching? What is their review? I hope their parents, and frankly any parents, are *not* watching! And of course my husband has no interest since, as he says, “there are no zombies or werewolves.”
For no discernible reason, someone dressed as Anpan man showed up at the Hanazono festival. He’s the #1 comic character for the nursery school through elementary school.
True to character, he tore off pieces of his face to feed strangers. He also offered red bean paste (in a purple plastic bag, below) with the bread that is his face. Not sure why this guy dressed up for the festival.
Other shrine visitors enjoyed his company, too!
Ok. This is in very bad taste. But, I am hoping to improve my listening abilities by following the lurid trial of Oshio Manobu, an attractive if arrogant actor accused of providing ecstacy to a Ginza hostess and then abandoning her when she had a heart attack.
This story has many important angles: the first famous “lay judge” or jury trial since it was recently introduced in Japan, a story about drug panic in Japan (love the visual at the beginning where hundreds of pills are flying across the screen), its location in a super expensive Roppongi apartment possibly owned by the Peaches John bra shop’s female owner, and so on. Here’s yesterday’s summary in English.
Verdict is on Friday!
What makes the story mesmerizing for me, and probably for many Japanese female viewers, is the combination of Oshio’s bad character and his many hot looks. Is it wrong to think sexual thoughts of a bad person? Can you learn Japanese while feeling conflicted? (I have posted twice previously last December and August).
What do you think?!
Awwww. I am touched by this Nico Nico Douga live-casted marriage between man and Nintendo videogame character. I like the honeymoon photo above. See below for a video report of this path-breaking wedding. The happy couple’s names are SAL9000 & Nene Anegasaki.
I hope the marriage lasts longer than the console!
Leaving Ginza before noon on a Sunday, I came across this delightful couple. The gent was kindly guiding his “character” date across a small street. I wonder what they get up to off-hours?
