As I’ve joked before, Tokyo has more than its share of strange building names, which seem to only increase in senselessness with the poshness of the neighborhood. I’ve ridiculed Movements, Zesty Minami-Koenji, Decent, and one of my favorites Cram Place.
This is a lovely modern apartment tower, lots of exterior raw concrete, beautiful balconies and views, a kindergarden on the ground floor, near good restaurants and mature trees, a place I would love to live in.
Yet, passing that name every day would be too much, right? “Selfista” reminds me of too English words: selfish, and self-fister which sounds like the master of an extreme sexual practice.
In Italian “sessista” or sexist maybe š
Ha, I never even thought of self-fister. There is a building near here, and I meant to take a photo to send you of the name. It’s “Advanced Stage”… my brain automatically thought old folks home (as in advanced stage of dementia) but there are bikes in the parking area with kid’s seats on them!
Wow, I liked “Cram space” -suitable for Tokyo, no? How do they come up with these names though- do they not get native speakers to check them out?! Bloody hell!
I used to live in an apartment (in Nakano strangely enough) called Mizaru Heights which always reminded me of the English word miserable but I think it was actually named after the see no evil monkey. I can`t remember now if it was in katakana or hiragana or not now though? Definitely wasn`t kanji though.
