I am wrapping up this fashion tour of the countryside with the incongruous site of the American Dream tour bus. In wonderfully eclectic fashion, an American theme– complete with eagle and red-white-and-blue– is fully compatible with the “hinomaru” and rising sun of Japanese nationalism. Why choose one theme when you can just have more!
What do you like best about Japanese country fashion? Do you get outside big cities often? What’s most inspiring about country fashion where you live?
I live in the countryside – pretty deep into it.
I find it inspiring that the moms of the kids I teach never leave the house without looking good. It’s not uncommon to see young couples picking up a kindergartener dressed up like foreigners would dress up to go out, with a new baby in tow.
And the old people! They never fail to disappoint. There’s an over 70s ladies’ softball league that sometimes stop to pick up snacks at my konbini. The uniforms and perfect sporty accessories make my day!
Wow! My fashion expectations were completely turned around by my brief trip. May, it sounds like you are getting a full does of country pride and fashion! So much unexpected beauty!!
Country girls here in Aus wear ugg boots and we mock them. Then I got to Shibuya, one of the fashion capitals of the world, and what are all the girls wearing!
