Kodona

Kodona

Via San Francisco and the newly opened New People j-Pop complex, I learned a new word for a male fashion style: kodona. It’s short for kodomo otona (child adult), and can be considered the male version of Gothic Lolita. Also called oji-sama (prince), it’s Victorian-inspired and also French 18th and 19th century. Aficionados of Japanese youth fashion will be aware that kodona blurs into Visual Kei.

My favorite aspect of this “outre” fashion is that while gendered male, it is worn by both girls and boys. More photos here.

“Madoff’s Other Secret: Love, Money, Bernie, and Me”

Hadassah headquarters

OMG! Ponzi uber-criminal Bernie Madoff had a 20 year romantic relationship with the chief financial officer of Hadassah? So claims Sheryl Weinstein in a book coming out at the end of August. Philanthropic adultery with a leading Zionist women’s organization is perverse at so many levels: Ms Weinstein’s charity was one of the early “investors” that received far more for its investments than it paid, yet Ms Weinstein also claims to have lost her and her husband’s personal fortune. Also, this new confession may be good news for Mrs Madoff (aka, Ruthie), who can use it as evidence that she had *no* idea what crimes her hubbie was up to. As my older relatives often said, “This is *not* good for the Jews.” Or as my husband would say, “Some people are desperate for attention.”

Narimiya Hiroki

Narimiya Hiroki

Is life circular or just my own depraved mind? An interesting discussion on Bangin sensei’s brilliant website about the difference between gay and Boys Love (BL) male ideals. On the one hand there are yakuza and gay terms aniki and gachimuchi (兄貴/ガチムチ), a butch-er, often mustachioed and muscle image. It can be summed up as ikanimo-kei (イカニモ系). On the other hand, there is the yaoi dream of androgynous beautiful boys, yaoi taikei (ヤオイ体型), who often do not appeal to gay taste.

Somehow the discussion led to young actor and singer Narimiya Hiroki, and then, despite the often lack of celebrity online photos, this deliriously dirty image above from his photo book Milk. OMG! And then, the husband reminded me that he is the star of the movie I want to see on DVD, Lala Pipo. It’s based on Okuda Hideo’s hilarious book (available in English translation, too).

Has anyone seen Lala Pipo? Does anyone have any intimate details about Narimiya Hiorki?

Japanese men behaving badly

Oshio & Manabu

A week full of scandals and bad behavior. Above is Oshio Manabu, an actor and pop singer, who fled the house of a woman with whom he did Ecstasy after she fell ill. He called his manager and left without calling for medical help. Later, she died. Now And now Manabu’s wife is divorcing him.

The second scandal involves “self-proclaimed professional surfer” Takaso Yuichi  busted for amphetamine stuffed in his underwear who blamed his wife, popular actress Sakai Noriko. She fled the city but was arrested today after leaving her son at the home of her husband’s mistress.

Sadly I can’t find a photo of alleged surfer Takaso (Above is Takaso, thanks to an anonymous tipster, unfortunately not caught in surfer action), although I was charmed to hear that the government has pulled the wife’s movie promoting the new lay jury system in Japan. Apparently they don’t want a fictional “juror” who is a real life suspect.

Noripi as fictional juror

The Japanese press is finding many warnings that Noripi was corrupted by her husband of ten years. Why she even got a tattoo last year: a clear signal of descent into depravity, no?

Early last year a tattoo was spotted on her left ankle, something not considered in keeping with her pure and innocent image. Showbiz sources say she had lost a lot of weight and was behaving erratically lately.

And lastly here is Noripi singing her “Blue Rabbit” (Aoi Usagi) song:
