Folsom Street Fair, censored poster and nostalgia

When I think of gay religious holidays, I naturally imagine Folsom Street Fair, the world’s largest leather and fetish outdoor event. Hundreds of thousands attend. All the spiritual uplifting and community without the tedious obligations and family fighting.

Flamboyant straight men are what I love the most about Japan

Until recently, Japanese gays seemed content to fade into the background: a performance of normality bordering on boring. Not so for the straight men of Japan, who are truly some of the world’s most magnificent peacocks.

I love the attention to detail: the rolled up hem has a fruit pattern, zebra print can be fused with jungle print, hair fried and stiff, skin is kept eerily dark and flawlessly unblemished. Sitting hip-to-hip challenges no one’s masculinity.

When I feel frustrated about various aspects of a foreigner’s life in Japan, I look around the train and feel uplifted, inspired, and very much in love.

Japan’s most famous gay adult video star, seen in Ni Chome

On the day I got my new digital camera, I saw Koh Masaki, Japan’s most famous gay adult movie star, being interviewed by two drag queens “live” at Alamas Cafe in Shinjuku Ni Chome. Immediately the camera purchase seemed like a good idea ; )

On the sidewalk, I chatted with other fans of his body of work. Whether natural or enhanced, Koh has several unique talents.

The giant fried shrimp in the center of this group portrait was my favorite costume at last week’s Rainbow Pride parade. The event’s theme was the vague “the power of the rainbow.” I think there’s more power in platform boots and sky-high head sculptures!

Eurovision song contest will turn you gay!

Last year Azerbaijan won, so they will be this year’s host. Apparently some Azeri terrorists are threatening the “Euro scum” with knives and chemical weapons. This will clearly be a clash of civilizations at the border between West Asia and East Europe. I am hoping gay-ness wins.
