It’s certainly not the Tokyo Metro. Here at the 16th Street BART station, a naked man stretches beneath a huge pile of hair. Reportedly he was also peeing and sexually harassing women. Around the same time, between 5 and 6 pm, two people started walking on the tracks between stations. Needless to say, the station and the system shut down. I guess when all the high-paid people take corporate shuttles in a separate and unequal transit system, there’s very little incentive to maintain the bare minimum for the public version. What’s next, an Israeli-style separation barrier between the posh and the poor?

I just discovered Jenna Marbles, a Youtube comedian. Apparently she’s popular with 13 to 15 year old girls. I can see why!

Shibuya’s new mascot loves to water flowers and put on make-up

From the Japan Times:

the fairy lives in Yoyogi Park and its hobby is to water flowers and put on makeup.

I love how in Japan, or at least Shibuya, putting on makeup qualifies as a hobby! The name Airissun combines the meanings of “love” and “iris” while also drawing on the sound of the English word “listen.”

 

Tokyo Metropolitan Gym reopens after one year renovation, and the gays rejoice

The Tokyo Metropolitan Gym is Tokyo’s gayest place. Certainly in daylight and without booze, this non-digital location ranks as the busiest social space for an often “down low” sub-culture. The gym is even gayer, but the pool is noteworthy for its clerestory windows, natural light, and 50 meter length. It’s cleaner than ever after the renovation.

TMG, or Taiikukan, is directly across the street from JR Sendagaya station, and near Shinjuku, Yoyogi, and Omotesando.

Lest you think spring brings out only positive feelings of joy and choreography, most of the over-heard comments by passers-by failed to appreciate the effort and artistry of these earnest teens. Dance on, boys!

Electoral mascots in Japan trigger gag reflex

I had to force down some rising vomit after seeing the unveiling of this competition-winning mascot for the upcoming Japanese election. Starry eyes or not, I’d be satisfied with his reign if his delusional views don’t cause wars with the neighbors or any more nuke accidents.

Maybe! I had forgotten about one-time Calvin Klein model Jenny Shimizu, later rumored to have slept with Madonna and Angelina Jolie. Now she’s been connected with NYC’s It Fashion sensation Michelle Harper.
