Goodbye summer and men in yukata

Goodbye summer and men in yukata, Tamaki Hiroshi

One of the best parts of summer in Japan is men in yukata, a light-weight summer kimono. The funniest thing is that when young guys wear them in Tokyo, typically they choose dark and understated ones like the one worn by Tamaki Hiroshi above.

It’s a rare moment for the Japanese peacocks to choose restraint, and the girls in summer wear the most garish colors and patterns on their yukata. At least, as you see in Tamaki-sama’s photo, he hasn’t eschewed the fancy hair-do and extraneous jewelry (including ankle bracelet?!).

  1. Oooooh, did you put that picture up for me? ;) You are the best! I seriously love men in Yukata too. If you go to a ryokan, you can see tons of hot guys wearing them.

You get to go in a male onsen, though!! sooo jealous. heehee.

  2. Yes, MISA, onsen and sentou are gay paradise. So much hot nudity. You would love it!

It would be dreamy to see lots of guys changing out of their yukata on way to bath . .

  3. A moment of silence for the end of yutaka wearing!
:) For some reason, at your last comment Jared, an entire one-shot yaoi manga just flashed into my head. I can see it now…

  4. I even have a specific mangaka I would want to make this onsen yaoi manga. :D

And I totally agree with Misa… my dream is to go to an all boys onsen/all boys school.

    • Yes, onsen yaoi would be fantastic. BTW, I was “forced” to attend an onsen with some Japanese undergraduates. Even I was shocked by the nude wrestling, belly flopping and mock sexual photos. No, I did *not* take them, so you won’t be seeing them here.

  5. Haha. Marius, I knew you would love that story. It was unforgettable and very very wrong!

  6. Hahaha! I’m still struggling with my picture taking here. On the one hand, I feel like it would be a sin to let some of the things I see here go with nothing to remember it but my faulty memory but on the other I feel stupid/rude taking pictures of people just trying to take the subway home.

If I were in your position, I probably wouldn’t have taken many pictures but I’d cry myself to sleep in regret the same night. XD

  7. It was all I could do to pretend I was *not* shocked by their horny antics. That the group nudity was work-related makes it all the more taboo.

I think your taking photos of fully clothed people in public should be no problem. Hit the shutter button!
